CALS was first brought to Montana in 2014.
Dr. Bill Gallea, an Emergency Physician in Helena, MT, learned about the changes that the CALS Program was bringing to Minnesota. He recognized the need for comprehensive training for medical providers throughout Montana. In 2013, he organized a group of healthcare providers to attend a CALS course in Minnesota. Upon returning to Helena, they were enthusiastic and committed to bringing the CALS course to their state. With the generous support of ACEP, the first CALS Montana course was held in Helena in August 2014.
The CALS Program in Montana has addressed a significant gap in education within a state where nearly 600,000 residents live in rural and remote areas. Access to healthcare is limited, making the need for quality care essential. As a result, the CALS Program has become a regular offering throughout the state, with support from the Montana Health Network.
Courses are generally held in the Spring and Fall.
