OB/Neonate Module

The CALS OB/Neonate Module is designed to help nurses and other healthcare personnel level up their care for obstetrical and neonatal patients, providing them with an interactive opportunity to hone critical life-saving skills.

After completing the OB/Neonate Module, you’ll be able to:

  1. Identify signs of compromised maternal status in obstetrical emergencies.
  2. Simulate multiple types of complicated deliveries.
  3. Discuss the signs and symptoms of fetal distress and the appropriate intervention.
  4. Discuss fetal monitoring procedure.
  5. Demonstrate the steps in evaluation and resuscitation of the neonatal patient.
  6. Demonstrate placement of umbilical vascular access lines.
  7. Discuss the appropriate steps in medication administration in the neonatal patient.
  8. Demonstrate steps in managing the airway of a newborn with respiratory distress.
  9. Discuss stabilization and transport consideration of the OB/Neonatal patient.

This Neonatal and Obstetric training course is great for:

  • Rural Hospitals and Emergency Departments that have infrequent deliveries
  • Rural Hospitals and Emergency Departments that don’t have Obstetrics or Birth Centers
  • Medical students who wish to develop their obstetric delivery and neonatal resuscitation skills

Accreditation: The CALS OB/Neonate Module has been reviewed by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) CME Accreditation Department and the Commission on Continuing Professional Development and is acceptable for up to 6 CME (3 instructor led training + 3 enduring online self-study) prescribed credit hours. AAFP prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association (AMA) as equivalent to AMA Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1. When applying for the AMA PRA, prescribed hours earned must be reported as prescribed hours, not as Category 1.

**Up to 16.5 additional CE credits can be obtained through the American Red Cross upon successful completion of ARC Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification (offered as part of your CALS OB/Neonate Module).
